Landskron Castle has a lot to offer.
In the Middle Ages, it was one of the most magnificent Renaissance manor houses. The new Burgherrenrunde is pure adventure hiking, with spectacular views of Villach, Lake Ossiacher See and Landskron Castle. There is plenty to marvel at along the route, which is not particularly challenging, as the 3.6-kilometre hike is easy and the 180 meters of elevation gain are quickly covered in the first half hour. The Burgherrenrunde can be perfectly combined with a visit to the Eagle Arena, the Castle Restaurant and the Monkey Mountain! With the birds of prey, the more than 150 Japanese macaques and the top culinary delights at the castle, the day will fly by.
The best family hiking trails
The Villach - Faaker See - Ossiacher See region offers numerous family-friendly hiking trails that combine exercise and experiencing nature in a fun way. Whether short walks with great views, themed trails with puzzles and tasks or interactive adventure stations - hiking becomes an adventure for children here. New from June 2025, the "Path of the Planets" on the Gerlitzen Alpe is a highlight for all little explorers.

Small laps, big fun: lake.bike pump tracks are the ideal introduction to biking for families. On the undulating circuits, children playfully learn to keep their balance, improve their cornering technique and roll through the waves - without pedaling!
Whether on the pump tracks in Drobollach, in Afritz am See or in the Kids Bike Park Gerlitzen - the child-friendly facilities are ideal for first bike experiences, little adventures in between and family time together on two wheels. Just get on your bike and get rolling!

The Dobratsch Nature Park is an experience for families at any time of year. The Villach Alpine Road leads 16.5 kilometers up to Villach's local mountain - with fantastic viewpoints such as the Skywalk over the Rote Wand at parking lot 6.
In summer, leisurely hikes await, such as to the Gamsblick viewing platform, as well as the lovingly designed nature playground directly behind the Rosstratten-Schmankerlstube - ideal for letting off steam while parents enjoy Carinthian specialties.
In winter, the Rosstratte is transformed into a little snow paradise: Winter hiking, tobogganing and ice skating offer exercise and fun in the middle of nature - without the hustle and bustle.
