The Mushroom & Elli Riehl Puppet Museum
In the picturesque village of Winklern, near lake Ossiacher See, a museum of a special kind awaits you: the Mushroom & Elli Riehl Puppet Museum. It houses the largest collection of domestic and foreign mushroom exhibits in Europe and invites you to immerse yourself in the fascinating world of mushrooms. Learn why mushrooms are so important for our habitat, how to distinguish poisonous from non-poisonous mushrooms and how to tell whether a mushroom is inedible.
In addition to the exciting mushroom exhibitions, the museum offers interactive experiences: Test your knowledge at the interactive game box, discover sparkling rock crystals and amethysts or be amazed by the impressive giant spider. In the fantasy forest, visitors are captivated by lightning storms at night and phosphorescent algae. In short video presentations, you will also learn exciting facts about mushrooms and nature.
A special novelty: following the closure of the "Elli Riehl Puppenwelt", many of the handmade puppet children have found a new home in the Mushroom Museum. The detailed depictions of rural life and well-known personalities delight young and old alike. A small part of the puppet collection is on display in the Treffen municipal office.
A family outing that combines fun and knowledge - and admission is even free for holders of the Kärnten Card or the Erlebnis CARD!
