Villach Alpine Road
The Villach Alpine Road is one of the most beautiful panoramic roads in Carinthia and leads 16.5 km from Villach up to the Dobratsch, our region's local mountain. With seven sweeps and numerous curves, the route covers around 1,200 m in altitude - and offers wonderful views of our mountain world.
There are several parking spaces along the route, which are ideal for a relaxing break or as a starting point for a hike. A special experience along the route is the Alpine Garden at 1,483 m above sea level, where over 800 alpine plant species from all over the world thrive. For a spectacular panorama , it is worth stopping at the Skywalk viewing platform at car park no 6. A barrier-free footbridge leads to the free-floating platform, which offers a view of the "Red Wall", a shimmering reddish rock face. From here, visitors can enjoy a sweeping view of the Karawanken and the Julian Alps - an absolute highlight of the Villach Alpine Road.
The end of the route is marked by the Rosstratte at 1,732 m above sea level. From here, various hiking trails lead up to the Dobratsch summit. In addition, the geo learining trail "From an ocean to a mountain" invites you on an exciting journey through the history of the earth.
