International festival for music, literature and discourse in Carinthia

Carinthischer Sommer

The Carinthian Summer is an international festival for music, literature and discourse in Carinthia. The festival stands for cosmopolitanism, cultural diversity and intellectual curiosity. It offers culture at the highest level and is accessible to all visitors.

The second season under the new directorship of Nadja Kayali is titled ‘moving’. The programme is varied: this year there will be two festival overtures for the first time. The ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra will perform three orchestral concerts as the festival orchestra, including the farewell concert of chief conductor Marin Alsop. The Festival Artist 2025 is Julia Hagen, a fantastic young cellist who is already enjoying a global career and can be heard in several concerts. Another highlight this summer is the new chamber music week ‘Drumherumhören’, a kind of ‘festival within the festival’: for one week, the Frankfurt Eliot Quartet will play all 15 string quartets by Dmitri Shostakovich, and ‘all around’ there will be walking concerts with music, readings, talks, walks and food. Famous names such as Rudolf Buchbinder, Joachim Meyerhoff, Birgit Minichmayr, Georg Nigl and others will be guests. A literary sensation awaits visitors with the world premiere of a new text by author and director Zhenya Berkovich, who was imprisoned in Russia.
